This page is divided into two parts, the first section addressing my personal awakening to Inner Light, the second with lightwork in one on one sessions.

My Awakening to Inner Light

My inner awakening to light was intense, dramatic, blissful, emotional, powerful, disruptive, exhausting and had all the subtlety of being hit over the head with a cosmic two by four. I had started Transcendental Meditation (TM) in 1972, five years earlier, simply to quiet my mind which was running around like a crazed monkey. (Still does at times.)

In 1977, several hundred fellow teachers of TM attended an six month long retreat in Seelisberg, Switzerland, solely devoted to extended periods of meditation of up to six hours a day. Prior to the course, my meditation was a twenty minute period with the usual thoughts, mantra, some silence and depth. As the course progressed, my meditations became a physical event, my body becoming increasingly heated and agitated.

This was not an unusual experience on TM meditation retreats, but now it had advanced to such a state that I was alarmed. My body began to shake involuntarily and my breathing shifted into a 'breath of fire', short breaths rapidly and explosively moving in and out of my nostrils and lungs. The cells of my body began pulsing, further increasing the agitation and fueling the notion that I would soon explode.

One day the whole experience shifted from this bounded state into a unbounded perspective. It was as if the cellular structures had aligned themselves with pure consciousness so that now the body's nature was oceanic, silent and unbounded. I couldn't explode because I was already everywhere! A river of flowing light began to course up my spine and throughout my body. I became aware of my chakras or energy centers, (of which I had little prior knowledge), my head and my heart chakras opening to a exquisite, self-existing world of light and love, (by the way not at all, an uncommon experience on many of the TM courses of the 70's).

This began an initiation into the alchemy of light which had its ups and downs to say the least. Meditation was no longer confined to twice daily sitting of an hour or more. Now it was happening on the fly wherever and whenever. I would become totally absorbed in the light which had taken on a timeless dimension. I became increasingly spaced out, unable to subdue the cosmic forces that were unleashed in my body. For years, my sleep and my daily activity were disrupted by the energetic flow of light which eventually left me exhausted and unable to function in the real world.

Fortunately, it also activated a natural healing process within me that over the years allowed for a deeper integration and understanding of the processes of light which I discuss in the pages on breath, sound and bodywork.

Lightwork

In 1987, a friend from NYC and a fellow TM'er, came to southern California to teach a course on healing. I took the course simply to offer her financial support. I participated with an open mind but with little expectation that anything profound would happen. As the fates would have it, a whole new world opened to me and I soon began a practice in healing.

I found that I could sense and feel the flow of energy within and around other people's bodies through my hands. I was surprised to discover that people had plenty of energy in their overall field that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body but that it is not metabolized by the body. Even though there was an abundance of non-physical or light energy available to people, most were suffering from 'mal-illumination' or "light starvation! This was due to the loss of physiological ability to process light energy.

My initial focus was exclusively the domain of the seven main energy centers or chakras situated along the spine. When I placed my hand on a center, I became aware of what the emotional, psychological and energetic issues were even though the client may not be aware of it. I could sense the presence or absence of light within the centers and bring them into balance through a process of charging and discharging the centers. The client would enter into a natural healing trance during which they would become aware of what the issues were that were preventing the flow of energy in and out of the center. Entire sessions were devoted to this work alone with profound results.

For example I may find a deficiency or block in the solar plexus center which has to do with governing the autonomic nervous system as well as the operation of the will. Depending on the severity of the situation, the process of restoring the function of the autonomic system and the alignment of the will could take several minutes to an hour and last over a period of several sessions. As the center became more fully functioning the client would then begin to connect with their source, a self existing field of love and light that they now were aware of simply because the centers were open and flowing.

However, many clients expected all the sessions to be of a spiritual nature but there was a deeper process that neither I nor the client was expecting. This involved the process of breath and the healing of the emotions, which was another story entirely, the light acting as a preparation for a deeper healing. When I began healing work, I naively believed that healing was a simple process of attuning the physical body to that of the lightbody. I soon discovered, as I had with meditation, that a deeper heealing process was activated. As the saying goes when the light hits, the dark gets tough. More on this in the next section on breath.
