is the outgrowth of thirty years of meditation and fifteen years of bodywork and healing. It's an intuitive synthesis of modern and ancient, somatic and esoteric, eastern and western approaches to viewing and healing body, mind and spirit.
I wanted to include something of myself and my work in Heather's site. It is intended as an a supplement without which this the site would not be complete. They are, in fact, intended as a completion of a promise I made to myself and to Heather to talk more openly about myself and my work. The pages herein are the beginning of a much larger site called visionarybodywork.com to be constructed in the near future hopefully. But as everything begins with a first step, this is mine.
A brief sketch of my background begins with time spent in my twenties as a spiritual seeker and Transcendental Meditation teacher, (some of you may remember Maharishi Mahesh Yogi?) teaching full time in the New York CIty area and attending frequent meditation retreats in the US and Europe. This included a six month long course in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. But that is another story entirely. (Hey you weren't expecting a formal bio were you?) The upshot of all this was a tremendous spiritual awakening coupled with the fact that I was completely spaced out.
In my late twenties, I left the TM movement, relocated to southern California. Five years later I embraced the path and practice of bodywork and healing. Eventually the approaches to healing that I studied transcended themselves and the body itself became the teacher and the teaching. It became evident that Light, Breath, Sound and Touch are the basic stimuli to which all human bodies beneficially and powerfully respond. Think of them as tools of consciousness each sufficiently capable of revealing and developing the individual's true inner nature.
The teachings of the Sacred Feminine have equally been an integral factor on this circular path of healing as the majority of my clients have been women immersed in these issues. Thus the 'need to walk a mile in their shoes' so to say. I've also learned many truths from Shamanism and Native American teachings, from their world views such as Mayan calendrics and from participating in numerous sweat lodges through the years. I've taught and lead seminars on meditation, yoga, breathwork, toning and alternative healing. I also play the didjeridoo, an Australian aboriginal trance instrument, the flute and the djembe, an African hand drum. And I'm a life long student of divination, specializing in modern and ancient astrology. (Bookmark or visit www.fullmoonastrology.com)
To complete the sketch, the culmination or turning point of my healing work came with the year long caretaking of Heather until her death. I had always thought of healing as a return to life and to health. Now I know that a remarkable healing does occur with a conscious death, one that would not otherwise happen. Death, like Life, is a mystery to be lived and carries it's own resurrection themes. Death itself has become my teacher. With so many home deaths due to terminal illnesses such as Heather's, more education in the field of alternative healing and conscious dying is in great need to meet the upcoming crisis. It would appear that fate has tipped my hat in that direction.
The websites mentioned have also been designed and developed by me. I must confess, I've become a bit of a computer geek lately. I'm currently living in southwest Co with friends. And I am spending a lot of time writing, writing, writing! That's all for now folks.
Enjoy the rest of the site.
